Story of AweFull Learning
In the 18 months between February 2015 & the summer of 2016, two events occurred in the life of our Founder, Scott Bricker, which forever shifted the focus of his journey in education.

With the birth of his first son Carter in February 2015, Scott was transformed in a way that is difficult to capture in words. Throughout the years watching Carter grow, he grew to believe, "You don't have to be a parent to be a good teacher, but when you are a parent and a teacher you see learning through a completely different lens & perspective you never dreamed possible." The magic of watching the wonder and curiosity in your child’s eyes is captivating and his passion for creating incredible learning experiences for his son, and all students, intensified greatly.​​​
Especially in those first few years, Scott found himself torn between the highly interactive, connected learning he was seeing happening at home with Carter, and the nearly bored-to-tears vibe he received from his high school Calculus students, all in spite of his inviting classroom environment and fostering a culture of loving & appreciating Math amongst his students. Regardless of every effort he made and any trick or shiny teaching strategy he wove into lessons…the spark just was not there.
Come to the end of that 2015-2016 school year, and a graphic came across his computer screen amidst a sea of data and feedback from a national Gallup Student Poll. The poll gathered information from nearly 1 million students across the United States and shared enlightening, if not life-changing, data around student engagement in classrooms across grades 3-12 (See graphs below). This data captured perfectly what Scott felt he was experiencing in his classroom, and around the entire school campus. Students were disengaged, going through the motions, and not interested in any sort of authentic, creative, or unique learning experiences. He was struggling through a truly AWFUL learning process, and it didn't sit well with him at all.

Thankfully, that wonder and curiosity from Carter and his discovery of the world, sparked a revelation for Scott that all learning & teaching needed to be full of those same components. In fact, it became so clear we need to move away from the AWFUL Learning environment so many of us have lived through and taught in, to AWE-FULL Learning, where students ask questions to learn more, feel comfortable failing and learning from those mistakes penalty free, and see learning as a process to spark eternal curiosity & personal growth and a way to make an indelible impression on their & our world.

The left brain in the logo displays the intricate circuits of our brain in charge of mastering the repetition and patterns of logic, language, & speech, while the logo's right brain beautifully displays our endless desire and passion for creativity, imagination, emotion, & intuition.

With best practices in neuroscience as the foundation of all we do at AweFull Learning, it is our belief the amazing potential of the brain needs to be understood and harnessed to truly reimagine education for all students and for the betterment of our world.
About Scott
Scott Bricker is the Founder & CEO of AweFull Learning and is driven by his passion for revolutionizing education across the US through a refocusing on the awe, wonder, and curiosity that make lifelong learning the driving force in our world. Throughout his career as a teacher, coach, tech director, and countless other rolls in schools, Scott has always focused on making a positive impact on students, teachers, and the overall learning processes in schools. It is now his aim to make an even more significant impact on all aspects of education across our country and around the world. An experienced consultant, speaker and presenter, Scott loves sharing thought-provoking ideas to audiences everywhere and motivating attendees to reflect & focus on the "WHY" behind everything they do, especially as it pertains to learning & teaching. Over the years, he has presented on such topics as: AI, Rethinking Assessment & Grading Practices, Reimagining Education, Effective School Leadership, and he has also created a series of sessions on using the latest neuroscience research to drive the modernization of learning & teaching methods and practices. After 25 wonderful years in the classroom and around the school campus, Scott now focuses on being an EDU Changemaker across the country and he looks forward to sharing his passion and goals for education with as many students, teachers, and schools as possible. Scott was the co-host of the vodcast "Live w/US Microsoft EDU" for 3 seasons (aka.ms/USMicrosoftEDULive) and he is also an active member of the MIE-Expert & Showcase School Communities, is an MIEE Fellow, and also a former Microsoft Showcase School Leader.
